Zellie groaned as she regained consciousness. There was an immense pain on the side of her head. Twigs had dug into her cheek upon her fall, and leaves had made their way into her hair.
Suddenly, she heard movement.
Squinting across the forest ground her body lay upon, she spotted a small animal.
A grey rabbit.
A grey four-eyed rabbit.
She lifted her head an inch.
Sure enough, a four-eyed rabbit stared back at her. Two eyes where they should be, and two smaller, beady eyes above them.
The rabbit calmly began hopping away.
Zellie blinked three times as she noticed the black ‘X’ spray-painted on the side of its body. She quickly hoisted herself up, twigs now digging into her palms.
Before she could confirm what she had seen,
the rabbit crawled into a hole beneath the roots of a tree.
